A controversial plan to redevelop garages at the entrance to the Town Moor, Narberth, into shops and residential accommodation has been turned down. During late August, County Councillor Wynne Evans arranged a site meeting at the site of the proposed development - two shops with four bedsits - with full members of the county council planning committee. Following this meeting and against the recommendation of planning officers to approve the proposal, the application was refused by 18 votes to one at last Tuesday's planning meeting. Clr. Evans successfully argued the case of the road safety hazards which could be caused by motorists parking outside these new units and blocking the mouth of a very busy car park. The applicant has now got the right to directly appeal against this decision to the Welsh Assembly Government. Footnote: Narberth Town Council had also voiced concerns about the plan when asked for their observations.
