A list of updates on development sites in Tenby which came before local councillors this week, has led them to further query a decision to recommend refusal for the continuation of a well-used car park on the edge of the town.
Despite both Pembrokeshire County Council and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority recommending refusal, the town council recently gave strong support to an application by the owners of a temporary car park on land at the former Tenby Ford Garage, located in South Parade, who want to renew permission for the facility.
Correspondence from the authority came before councillors at their meeting on Tuesday night, with updates on Local Development Plan land allocations and larger development sites within the National Park.
Clr. Lawrence Blackhall noted as a point of observation that mention of Tenby's Butts Field car park on the list, stated that the county council, as landowners, had advised that the need to provide an alternative car park made development of this site 'uneconomic' at present.
"So the need for additional car parking in Tenby is recognised on the LDP list, yet the application for renewal of the Five Arches car park consent is being recommended for refusal?" he pointed out to his fellow members.
"Maybe we should write to both authorities to ask them if they know what they're doing," commented Deputy Mayor, Clr. Paul Rapi.
The application is due to be discussed at a meeting of the National Park's development management committee on Wednesday.
