More than 40 people, a mix of heritage organisations and tourism businesses, attended the ‘Year of Legends’ Community Tourism networking event held last week at Plas Hyfryd Hotel.
The focus was on the ‘Year of Legends’ with presentations from Phil Abraham, regional engagement manager, Visit Wales, on Visit Wales’ Year of Legends marketing initiatives at home and abroad; and Pembrokeshire’s Year of Legends by Alan Turner, marketing and development manager, Pembrokeshire County Council.
This was followed by a presentation on the new Discovery in the Dark project by Hannah Buck, PCNPA tourism policy and wellbeing officer. Luke Phillips, front office supervisor of Twr y Felin Hotel, the Retreats Group Ltd., talked about his experiences of tourism and hospitality industry in Slovenia, with Kate Lindley of PLANED, rounding up the day with a talk on the Echoes of the Past initiative and the Innovative Heritage project.
The audience had a chance to learn about the work of the Pembroke and Monkton History Society, Narberth Museum, the Sunderland Trust, Tenby Museum, PENfro festival, Llangwm Heritage and the Coastlands Local history Group, who provided displays of their activities at the event.
The day was a good opportunity to learn about new tourism product development in the county, and wider marketing initiatives, as well as to network and share best practice.
The event was organised by PLANED on behalf of the Destination Pembrokeshire Partnership, as part of the Year of Legends tourism engagement events, with funding support from Visit Wales. There are free marketing and media resources available online for those who would like to get involved.
