The Tour of Pembrokeshire Cycle ride has been helping to raise money for lifesaving charity, Wales Air Ambulance, since 2008, raising over £11,000 an amount that was exceeded with 2012's donations.

The donations for last year's cycle tour raised an astonishing £17,546.84, effectively doubling the organisations total donation since they began supporting Wales Air Ambulance.

The cheque was presented to WAA's Pembrokeshire co-ordinator, Tony Key, and WAA volunteer, Marjorie Clarke, by tour organisers, Tim Brace, Dillon Harries, Ted Hoyle and Sarah Gateley-Preece at St Brides Hotel, Saundersfoot, last Friday. A special mention went to one of the stalwarts of the cycle club, Brian Jones, who was recognised for his continued support over the years.

The Tour of Pembrokeshire Cycle Ride has been supporting WAA since 2008 and they have announced that 2013 will be the last year that the helicopter charity will be their main beneficiary. The group have donated almost £29,000 to the all Wales charity since they began, a fantastic amount that WAA is extremely grateful for.

Tony Key said: "This has been a fantastic event that has helped to increase the supporter base in Pembrokeshire, provide a fantastic fun day out, as well as raise the vital funds that allows Wales Air Ambulance to maintain their operation in Wales.

"The support we've received has been phenomenal and I'd like to offer my thanks on behalf of myself and Wales Air Ambulance to everyone who has helped to organise the Tour of Pembrokeshire and those who took part. Your time and donations have helped to save the lives of those with serious illness and injuries in Wales," added Tony.

The Tour of Pembrokeshire event will continue under the new management of Peter Walker, of Pembrokeshire Cycles, Narberth. The event this year will be taking place on April 27 and 28, with Wales Air Ambulance being supported by the organisers and the charity's volunteers being involved in the event.
