Pembrokeshire have re-entered the Welsh Schools Competition this season under the Pembrokeshire Football Academy, administered by Haverfordwest County AFC, in the 1993 and 1995 age groups. The first game was played on Sunday on The New Bridge Meadow, with the following result:   Pembs Schools U15s 2   Rhonda Cynon Taf Schools U15s 7   This Under 15s schools' match illustrated the effects of a three-year gap in Pembrokeshire's presence in the Welsh Schools' Competition.  Playing against a team that has not lost a match for three years, Pembrokeshire were two goals down in the early stages, before getting used to the pace of the game. RCT opened up the Pembrokeshire defence on numerous occasions, and several shots from unchallenged players flew past the home goal. Peter Scammell was beaten for a third time with a low skidding shot, but this triggered a Pembrokeshire effort which saw them hit a post and then Brennan Findley pulled a goal back with a strong shot. Coming out 3-1 down for the second half gave Pembrokeshire some encouragement as the margin was not enough to put them out of the game. A series of attacks on the visitors' goal failed to make the score 3-2 as the visitors marshalled their defence well, but then began to play some skilful football, resulting in more goals, before Pembrokeshire scored a token goal to make the score 5-2. Closing the gap in this way gave the inexperienced home side some confidence, and Peter Scammell made some brave saves to keep the score respectable. RCT's fitness, skill and team method opened up huge gaps in the home midfield and defence and further goals brought the final score to 7-2 in favour of the visitors. This match was played in excellent conditions, and in a fine spirit. It began what will be an upward learning curve for Pembrokeshire Schools' players in this national competition.
