St. Clears Leisure Centre is the first in the county to host Touch Tennis sessions. From June 6, on Thursday evenings between 5 and 7 pm, anyone can pop into the leisure centre for a game of touch tennis.

Kate Williams, 5x60 officer, said: "It is a fantastic new form of tennis that is great fun for everyone, regardless of ability."

Currently, touch tennis has a huge following amongst experienced tennis players. However, the skill level required combined with the simplicity of the various formats of play, make it great fun to play at any age and brilliant for beginners and less experienced tennis players, getting more people, more active, more often.

The Menter, a local organisation who work to encourage the use of the Welsh language, is working in partnership with Carmarthenshire County Council's regeneration and leisure department.

By helping to run the sessions at St. Clears Leisure Centre, they are able to provide a choice to the public with the opportunity to participate in Welsh or English.

Area facilities manager Gary Price added: "Touch tennis provides a lovely opportunity for families to participate in an activity together, to encourage this, St. Clears Leisure Centre is offering discounts for families attending touch tennis."

Touch tennis is open to all ages (as long as you can hold a racquet) and there are discounts available for family groups.

The cost is £3 for adults, £2 children (adults get one third off the price when participating with a child). Come and try something new
