This autumn, The Torch Theatre, Milford Haven, presents a series of films all made and set in Wales.

The Welsh film mini-series opens on Thursday, September 22, with Y Llyfrgell (The Library Suicides), the debut feature from award-winning director Euros Lyn. The film (which is in Welsh with English subtitles) is based on Fflur Dafydd’s bestselling novel Y Llyfrgell and is an offbeat thriller set in the National Library of Wales.

When famous author Elena Wdig commits suicide, her twin daughters, librarians Nan and Ana, are lost without her. Elena’s final words suggest that her biographer, Eben, murdered her. One night, the twins set off to avenge their mother’s death at the National Library of Wales, but are disrupted by night porter Dan, who is unwillingly caught up in the saga.

The cast stars Catrin Stewart (Doctor Who, Stella) as the twins, a performance which won her Best Performance in a British Film at Edinburgh International Film Festival, and also includes Dyfan Dwyfor, Ryland Teifi and Sharon Morgan.

On Thursday, October 20, the mini-series continues with The Lighthouse, a gripping psychological thriller based on one of the most infamous true stories in Welsh maritime history - the Smalls Lighthouse tragedy which took place off the coast of Pembrokeshire.

At the end of the 19th century, two men find themselves trapped in an isolated lighthouse cut off from the outside world. As the storms rage and relief seems impossible, a terrible tragedy befalls one of the keepers, leaving the survivor fighting to stay sane in a nightmarish situation.

The mini-series concludes on Thursday, November 24, with Just Jim. Emile Hirsch stars alongside Craig Roberts (Submarine, 22 Jump Street) in Roberts’s directorial feature debut about a school loner whose life changes dramatically when an enigmatic new neighbour arrives in town.

Life sucks for Jim. His best friend Michael is now hanging with the cool kids and Jim’s only companion is his dog. He’s stuck in a small town where nothing ever exciting happens, until Dean, a mysterious American moves in to the house next door. Dean is older, good looking and in Jim’s eyes the coolest guy he’s ever met. Jim can’t believe his luck. Dean offers him friendship, helps him win the girl of his dreams and he soon becomes the most popular boy in school. But when it turns out Dean is hiding a dark secret, Jim is forced to question if his newfound popularity is really worth it.
