THE Torch Theatre in Pembrokeshire's Milford Haven has scooped a major national award for the second year running.
The Theatre in Wales award for 'Best Production in the English language' was won for the theatre's 25th anniversary production of 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' in 2002 and it has just been announced that 'Of Mice and Men' - the Torch Theatre Company's autumn 2003 production - came top again, beating all the competition in Wales for the coveted title.
Peter Doran, artistic director, collected the award at a ceremony which took place at Aberystwyth Arts Centre.
He said: "It's nice to know that the consistently high standard of Torch work is being recognised nationally, and this award shows that it's not just local audiences who appreciate our productions. It's a tremendous honour to receive this top award for a second year running."
Lawrence Allan, who played George, and Tim Perrin, who played Lennie in 'Of Mice and Men', were runners-up in the best actor category, as was Sean Crowley, who designed the set.
The awards recognise the best Welsh talent on the stage, with the winners selected by visitors to the website http://www.theatreinwales.co.uk">www.theatreinwales.co.uk
Currently showing at the Torch is 'Educating Rita' - Willy Russell's warm and witty drama - until Saturday, February 14. Box Office: 01646 695267.
