'Haven is the place to be' states one of the songs in this year's Torch Theatre Company panto Cinderella and who could argue with a Christmas show that is positively bursting with magic, mayhem and music.
In The Torch's adaptation of the well-known tale, Baron Hardup (Richard Nichols) has brought his new wife, Cecily Golddigger, and her two daughters, Eugiene and Hygiene, to live at Hardup Hall.
In a story set up by a Scouse fairy godmother (Emma Hirons), who admits to enjoying nothing more than a drink or two in Haverfordwest town centre on a Friday night, and with Buttons (Oliver Wood) sporting a red mohawk, the Torch's production certainly brings the ultimate tale of rags to riches into the modern day, with poor Cinderella hoping to meet her Prince charming, despite having to play servant to her two step-sisters, who like to do 'lady things' such as play darts.
With the Prince (Sam Bees) looking to round-up a few young women to attend his ball with the help of his sidekick Dandini (Sophie Melville), he suggests putting a post on Facebook to promote the do - until it's pointed out that the social networking site hasn't been invented yet!
The two ugly sisters who liked to be referred to as being 'classy and sassy' certainly turn a few heads (and stomachs) at the party, as they put on a Strictly showcase of rumba dancing and later try to push their bunions to one side for a chance to fit into the glass slipper that will give them a chance to be the Prince's dream girl.
There's a wealth of charm, wit and warmth as always in the Torch's festive production, which had the children of Pembroke Dock Community School laughing and singing along to an eclectic mix of tunes at this preview.
Ther's also plenty of humour to keep the adults entertained, with cross dressing jokes from the ugly sisters wonderfully played by panto favourites Dion Davies and Liam Tobin, who even end with a good old Cockney knees-up to leave a 'little bit of magic in your soul'.
Directed by Peter Doran and featuring music and songs by composer James Williams, Cinderella opens to the public at Milford Haven's Torch Theatre from December 20 to January 3. Tickets are available on The Torch website http://www.torchtheatre.co.uk">www.torchtheatre.co.uk or from the Box Office on 01646 695267.
