THE Torch Theatre's silver jubilee season has been the most successful in the theatre's 25-year history!
The season, which included 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', 'Danny and the Donkey Man and the Search for the Magic Crystal' and 'One For The Road', played to a total of 73 per cent capacity which is as good, if not better, than any theatre in Wales.
The incoming shows are at present playing to 70 per cent capacity, with many shows selling out completely!
Torch Theatre artistic director, Peter Doran, admits that the figures had come as bit of a shock.
"Each season you always set out to attract as large an audience as possible, but breaking records is the last thing on your mind," he said. "The pleasing thing about this season is that the plays were so different - appealing to diverse sections of the community and yet all have been equally successful.
"You'll still get people knocking the Torch, saying 'it's a waste of public funds...' or 'it was built in the wrong place...' but you can't argue with statistics, and these are as good as anywhere in the country. Theatre is alive and well and living in Milford Haven!"
'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' was awarded Best Production (in the English language) and Best Design in the recent Theatre in Wales awards.
