On Tuesday, November 25, there will be a meeting of the Gardeners Club... for enthusiasts when the speaker will be the well-known specialist in sculptural topiary, James Crebbin-Bailey, who will be travelling from London especially to talk to the club. He regularly creates new and innovative shapes, as well as classical or traditional topiary designs such as spirals, cloud topiary or peacocks.
His work and demonstrations have been featured in many classical exhibits at Chelsea, Hampton Court, RHS London and on TV. James was awarded the 'Best Newcomer in Show' at Hampton Court, 2002.
He comes from a background in landscape gardening and can advise on all aspects of practical garden design of any size or scale. James combines herbaceous borders with copper and other metals to form topiary shapes, giving gardens and parterres an interesting structural element with colour and individuality.
As usual the venue is Rudbaxton Community Hall, Crundale, starting at 2 pm. There is a large car park plus facilities for disabled people. Light refreshments will be served and of course guests will be very welcome.
In October, the speaker was Elizabeth Whittle, whose knowledge of 'How our gardens developed' was greatly appreciated by an audience of over 40 members and guests.
If anyone would like further information about the club and future events, please do not hesitate to contact either the chairman, Jill Foster, on (01437) 751241, or the secretary, Sue Paterson-Jones, on (01646) 682596.
