Lord’s Cricket Ground in London was the prestigious venue for the annual Fields in Trust UK Awards when East Williamston Community and Hall Association scooped the Partner of the Year 2016 award for its work in developing, maintaining and supporting the community’s Jubilee Park and Nature Trail.
The evening was hosted by Jill Douglas, the well-known sports broadcaster, and the award was presented to Jill and Tony Ensom, on behalf of the association, by the chairman of Fields in Trust, Tim Phillips.
The Park is registered with Fields in Trust which ensures its future as a community amenity providing free outdoor space for play, recreation and pleasure for all. The award particularly recognised the huge amount of work carried out by the Friends of the Park throughout the year and their contribution to the success of the park which is used by so many people.
Speaking after the ceremony, Fields in Trust chief executive, Helen Griffiths, said: “The Fields in Trust Awards help recognise the role parks and other green spaces play in our communities, bringing people together and creating a safe outdoor environment that everyone should have access to no matter where they live. Congratulations to all the winners tonight and thank you to all those outstanding individuals across the UK who go the extra mile for their local green spaces.”
