A major swimming gala is to be held at the Haverfordwest Leisure Centre next month.

The British Gas Swim Wales West Regional Championships will take place across the weekends of February 5/6 and 12/13.

It's only the second time in more than 40 years that the gala - one of the biggest swim events ever to be held in the county - has been held in Pembrokeshire, and follows last year's successful championships.

Over 250 swimmers from across West Wales are expected to compete in the gala with the Pembrokeshire teams of Haverfordwest Seals, Pembroke and District, Tenby Dolphins, Fishguard Flyers and Milford Haven Tigers well represented.

A partnership between Swim Wales, Pembrokeshire County Swimming and Pembrokeshire Leisure was instrumental in first bringing the event to the county last year.

It was made possible thanks to the new Haverfordwest Leisure Centre's eight-lane 25m pool with electronic timing, video scoreboard and spectator gallery for over 300 people

The event is licensed at level 2 and swimmers need qualifying times to enter. The gala will consist of individual and relay events, with awards made to the top three in each event.

Organised by the South West Wales regional panel of Swim Wales, similar events will be held in North Wales and South East Wales
