The quality of bathing water at beaches throughout Wales has hit a record high, Minister for Environment, Planning and Countryside, Carwyn Jones, announced on Tuesday. Every beach tested was found to have clean enough water to meet the basic European standards, and beaches in Pembrokeshire were among a record number this year to meet even higher standards. Bathing waters in the county that met the higher guideline standards were Amroth Central, Coppet Hall, Saundersfoot, Tenby North, Castle Beach, Tenby, Tenby South, Lydstep North, Manorbier, Freshwater East, Barafundle, Broadhaven South, West Angle, Dale, Marloes Sands, Broadhaven Central, Newgale Central, Caerfai Bay, Whitesands Central, Newport North and Poppit West. Welcoming the news, Pembrokeshire County Council cabinet member for tourism, Clr. Rob Lewis, said it was 'brilliant news'. "Once again, Pembrokeshire's beaches and bathing waters have proved that they are among the very best in the whole country," he said. "This must give tremendous heart to those involved in the tourism industry in our county and, of course, to all those of us who care about our environment."
