'Future Works' - part of Pembrokeshire County Council's Training and Development service - has received a glowing report from Estyn. Based at the council's Development Centre at Pembroke Dock, the service has been providing apprenticeship training in Pembrokeshire for over 20 years. It works closely with hundreds of local employers and training providers to find training opportunities for individuals across the county. Estyn re-inspected the quality of work-based learning at Future Works in April 2007. The report stated that the organisation had made 'very good progress' in addressing all of the recommendations from the previous inspection in 2005, and gave Grade 2s across the board. "There has been considerable improvement in attainment in the learning area of Business, Administration and Law," details the report's summary. "Overall, leavers from the Foundation Modern Apprenticeship programme have attained particularly well, with 87 per cent gaining their qualification framework. "In the accounting part of this learning area, 83 per cent of learners leaving the Foundation Modern Apprenticeship programme attained their full qualification framework. "Learners work with a variety of local and national employers and achieve a good range of practical competences and skills. The report also praised improvements in management. "The provider has significantly improved its leadership and management in all aspects of its provision. All senior managers have introduced many effective systems and procedures. All managers and staff have a very strong focus on raising standards and improving the quality of training for learners. "The provider has made very good progress in addressing all of the recommendations from the last inspection." The Department of Lifelong Learning and Skills (DELLS) team at Future Works welcomed the report and said they found the re-inspection a valuable and positive process. "The DELLS staff and management team are committed to continue to improve quality and performance, and widen opportunities for learners through collaboration with all of our partners, agencies, and networks," a spokesperson said.
