Plans to redevelop a toddler park at Tenby's Jubilee Play Area have temporarily been put on the back burner by town councillors. A report of the Jubilee sub-committee was brought before Tenby councillors at their meeting on Tuesday evening. The report was a precise of a meeting regarding the possible development which had held with Pembrokeshire County Council's director of development, Dr. Steven Jones, the previous week. Dr. Jones explained that when he had taken up his post, there had been a need to look at the county council's resource base and develop a more strategic approach to play area provision. Dr. Jones added that the county council could not go 'pepper potting' grant money into individual play areas without gleaning a real picture of future needs within the 0 to 18 age group in the county. He was also aware of two potential developments close to the Jubilee site, and felt that there might be better opportunities on the Battery Gardens at present, but in the long-term, the Jubilee might be the better option. Dr. Jones said that he hoped that developer interest in the area would have crystallised within the next three to six months sufficiently for the county council to decide if the Jubilee would be the right site for the play area. "They've basically asked us to postpone the plan for six months and see what happens, so we've asked to be kept informed," explained Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown. Councillors agreed to the proposals and that discussions should be allowed to continue between the two parties.
