Sir,
I am replying to an article in your brilliant newspaper issue Friday, October 5, 2012, volume No159, No40, headed 'Bowler pulls plug on tour after parking fine'.
I laughed the first time I read it, and was still laughing a week later, so I had to comment on it. This Michael James, of Worcestershire, who parked illegally and admitted the same, thought he would write to everybody in the hope that everyone would take pity on him and either dispense with the fine or maybe everyone would have a whip round and pay the fine for him, then everything would be hunky-dorey. Well Mr. James, you need to step down into the 'real world' like the rest of us.
The correspondence he sent to Tenby town councillors was a disgrace and shameful of him; the replies from the councillors were quite correct. Clr. Paul Rapi's comment that the letter was 'very sad' was quite correct. The writer's total dealing of his fine was a disgrace, which also let his own Bowling Club members down. He hasn't said if he stayed the three nights or if he went back home and also, if he did stay the three nights, who paid for them and also who pays for his fuel or other bills? No doubt it would be the Bowling Club. Perhaps he was expecting the club to 'pay' the parking fine.
I don't think Tenby's economy will suffer that much over the loss of £2,000 (his figure). The real loss will be his Bowling Club who along with family and friends would have had a great time playing at Tenby and all that Tenby has to offer.
My gut feeling is that Mr. James should resign from the Bowling Club so that they can move forward.
Dennis Hinchey,
Pendine.
