William Powell, Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, has called on the Welsh Government to reopen St. Clears railway station.
Speaking in the National Assembly for Wales on the importance of transport connectively for economic growth in Wales, William Powell made it clear that the reopening of stations in commuter towns like St. Clears must play an essential role in any economic investment packages enacted by the Welsh Government.
"A railway station in St. Clears has the potential to further enhance the town and boost its economy," he said. "The Welsh Government must act to correct the mistaken 1964 decision to close the station and once again open St. Clears up to commuter traffic to and from Carmarthen."
Selwyn Runnett, Welsh Liberal Democrat St. Clears Town Councillor, added: "I and the Welsh Liberal Democrats have long been calling for the reopening of the station in St. Clears and I am pleased that William Powell is once again bringing our case to the National Assembly for Wales. A new station would be the shot in the arm St. Clears needs to enrich its town centre and boost trade in our local shops and services."
