Sir,

Further to the 'Gardens Vandalised' article, about Tenby's Cenotaph and Rotary Gardens, in last week's Tenby Observer, I wish to hereby express how upset I am by the red spray paint vandalisation of Brother Thomas's Garden, currently marring the peace of that tranquil spot. It seems to me that our society lurches along from extreme to extreme! From Victorian repression to contemporary total freedom of self-expression, regardless of the rights of others and dignity of public places and monuments. We never seem to hit any 'middle ground'. It is said that everything goes in cycles - perhaps we are due for a quiet, but penetrating, conservative (with a lower-case 'c') revolution? How about Tenby leading the way in such a revolution? In recent weeks, our small community has witnessed two robberies and last Saturday afternoon, a drink-fuelled display of violence, necessitating the expense of calling out a police helicopter. Isn't time nigh for such a 'conservative revolution'.

Anne-Ruth Alton, Tenby.
