With Pembrokeshire County Council’s cabinet to decide on Monday (March 11) whether the first phase of the planned closure of the authority’s ‘customer services centres’ gets approval, councillors in Tenby have called for a further meeting with PCC’s head of procurement to discuss the future of the town’s Tourist Information Centre.
The first wave of council customer service centres to be closed will shut their doors by June 30, according to a report to next week’s meeting of cabinet, with Tenby earmarked for closure along with centres in Fishguard, Milford Haven and Neyland.
PCC have indicated to the town council that they would consider looking at revenue generating ideas over the summer and liaising with interested parties to find a more permanent solution until October, when a final decision on the TIC in Tenby will be made.
Therefore with the Tenby facility possibly being granted a ‘temporary stay of execution’ for the summer period, local councillors have stated the need to work with the authority to find alternative ways of keeping the TIC open.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, the Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown and her colleagues called for a further meeting to be arranged with PCC’s head of procurement, Paul Ashley Jones, to discuss the matter further.
