Tenby's Scout and Guide movement has been 'riding along on the crest of a wave' this week after approval of ambitious plans for a new state-of-the- art headquarters. Members of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's development management committee gave the thumbs up on Wednesday for the erection of a new Scout and Guide Hall complete with six residential flats and six on-site parking spaces at the old hall site in Warren Street. Park planning officer David Green reported that the revised scheme, submitted by local developer Stuart Farrow, of GKV Developments, would provide much-needed modern facilities for the Scouts and Guides, while also creating six residential units in a building that had adequate parking and an acceptable impact on the amenity and privacy of adjacent properties. He also stated that a survey carried out had discovered no evidence of bats residing in the building. Committee members voted in favour of the officer's recommendation for approval. The decision has been welcomed by the hall trustees and management committee, who have been campaigning for the provision of new facilities for almost two decades. "Words cannot describe our delight that the project is now finally going to go ahead," said trustees chairman, Mr. Colin Jones. "We are indebted to everyone who has been involved with the project so far and are now looking forward to work starting hopefully within the next eight weeks." See also Letters page
