Members of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park development management committee have refused an application to alter a rundown former brewery building in Saundersfoot. Applicants Maldon Developments Ltd. had submitted plans for a scheme for an extension and alterations to the frontage of the Teggars Brewery on Brewery Terrace, which had been occupied in recent years as a retail discount store. The plans would also increase the retail area on the ground floor of the property, as well as providing two additional flats over the premises. When discussing the application at a meeting last week, planning officers reported to members that the building had fallen into a considerable state of disrepair, which was at present detracting from the appearance and character of the adjacent conservation area which follows the front boundary of the site. Officers stated that whilst there was no objection in principle to the improvement and development of the site, there was much concern with the current proposals, involving the alteration of the front and back of the property with new flat roof extensions. Officers felt that the plans were at a variance with the traditional architectural character of the area and would detract from the appearance and visual amenities of the locality and the village's conservation area. Committe members went along with officer recommendations and refused the application.
