Local Chartered Surveyors & Estate Agents, Guy Thomas & Co. have recently negotiated the sale of two well-known commercial properties in Tenby and the letting of another successful business.

Clarice Toys was opened in No. 4 Upper Frog Street by Trevor and Clarice Lloyd-Jones in 1962.

In the late 1960s their daughter Caroline and her husband John took over the business. In the late 1970s they expanded into No. 3 Upper Frog Street.

Following his father’s passing, John’s son Ian ran Clarice Toys with his mother Caroline. His sister Kerri also worked in the business for many years. Ian will continue to work in Tenby whilst Caroline will now enjoy her well-earned retirement.

Everyone who grew up in Tenby probably had toys bought for them at Clarice’s whether it be at Christmas, for birthdays or otherwise. Clarice’s will be missed by Tenby, but unfortunately the internet had effected trade in recent years.

It is understood that, subject to planning, the new owners propose to develop Nos. 3 and 4 Upper Frog Street into a gastro pub/restaurant with holiday accommodation above.

Park Road Chippy is a very well known takeaway and restaurant which enjoys an excellent reputation. The original takeaway was opened in the 1920s and was run by the Rogers family and then George and Violet Phillips.

The current premises was originally three terraced houses and was redeveloped by Joe and Barbara Williams. Barbara was Mr. and Mrs. Phillips’ daughter. Joe and Barbara’s son Andrew and his wife Sarah took over the business in 2001 and subsequently ran it very successfully.

Park Road Chippy has been leased rather than sold. The tenants have no intention of changing the business. They intend to continue providing quality traditional fish and chips etc.

Andrew and Sarah wish to thank all their very loyal customers, both the locals and the visitors, over the past 19 years. They are also grateful for the excellent staff they have had during this period.

Jazz Radio in Warren Street has been sold by Robert and Jayne Osborne. Robert was the fourth generation to run Jazz Radio.

The business was opened by his great-grandfather, Tommy Rogers, in 1932. He also owned the Jazz Sweet Shop in White Lion Street.

For around 87 years, Jazz Radio was one of Tenby’s longest established businesses. The first televisions arrived in the early 1950s in time for the Queen’s Coronation in 1953.

Robert and Jayne succeeded his parents, Tom and Joan, in 1992 and adapted all the modern trends and technologies. However, they decided to close the shop in 2017. Their excellent service, including after sales, is now lost forever.

The new owners will apparently not be using the ground floor as a shop. Apparently, subject to consent, their intentions are to convert the whole property into a three-storey town house or possibly the ground floor into a self-contained flat, leaving the existing maisonette on the upper floors.

Richard Ormond, commercial partner at Guy Thomas & Co, says that all three clients are delighted with their respective transactions.

Owners who are considering selling or leasing their properties or businesses may wish to speak with Richard Ormond on 01646-682342.

All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence.
