Tenby town council have unanimously agreed their new Mayor-elect, who has vowed to continue to do all she can for the community.

Subject to Clr. Mrs. Sam Skyrme-Blackhall being re-elected at the town and community council elections in May, she will be in line to don the scarlet robes of office for a third consecutive year.

Having become Mayor for the first time in 2020, due to the pandemic hitting, Clr. Mrs. Skyrme-Blackhall has yet to have a proper Mayor-making ceremony, due to Covid restrictions, however, a ceremony along with a civic dinner have been pencilled in to be held on Friday, June 10.

“It is easy to say but I am genuinely honoured to be Mayor-Elect for 2022/23 - there is much to look forward to and if I am re-elected onto Town Council, it will be a privilege that I will cherish,” said Clr. Mrs. Skyrme-Blackhall following Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council.

“As a result of the pandemic I have been Mayor in very different circumstances. I started by saying it was no time for ‘hand-bagging and glad-ragging’ and so it proved to be.

“But although we are hopefully entering new and more positive times, the challenges for our Town are still huge.

“I always say that my priorities are ‘community, community and community’ but you cannot have a community if it has nowhere to live. I know my colleagues on Town Council agree that this is the main challenge facing us,” she continued.

“And there are other challenges too – but if we start by putting the needs of people living here first, then we will not go far wrong.

“Our Town is amazing but can be better still. I will do all that I can to make it better for people that live here, for businesses and those that work here and for our many visitors who come here. And hey, who knows, maybe in the coming year can have some celebrations too.

“Together with my fellow Councillors, if given the opportunity, I look forward to working on this in the coming year,” added the Mayor.
