THE 'Small Gallery' at Colby Woodland Gardens hosts an exciting exhibition of silk paintings by three talented textile artists, starting on Monday, April 18. For Jan Hagen-Bossom this will be her third successive year of exhibiting, so this time round she will be joined by artists Anne Morgan and Maureen Grogan, who have also fallen under the spell of silk. Anne, who lives in the village of Abergorlech, surrounded by her beautiful garden, exhibits widely in venues throughout Carmarthenshire, including Aberglasney and the Wild Fowl and Wetlands Trust. Maureen used to be part of the Stepaside Craft Village, and last year exhibited at the Begelly Craft Centre. Now she works from her studio at home in Llandissilio, and, as a member of Pembrokeshire Craft Makers, exhibits regularly throughout the county. All three have worked previously in other mediums, so having arrived at silk via three very different career paths, they demonstrate very different responses to the medium, resulting in three distinctive styles. Whatever their style, however, there's certainly no beating the colours! Prepare to be dazzled! Their exhibits are not limited to paintings either. Beautiful cushions, hand-dyed scarves, wall hangings and light-pulls feature among the unique exhibits, as well as a good selection of mounted prints and cards. Another common thread (forgive the pun), is a shared love of flowers. These are three artists whose inspiration comes from their gardens. Between them, they will create an 'indoor garden' to rival the glorious blossoms currently in bloom at Colby's Woodland Gardens, all at their spring-time best. On Saturday, April 23, the middle weekend of the exhibition, Jan Hagen-Bossom will be in the gallery to meet the public and discuss her work. She will also be enrolling for the silk painting workshops which she plans to hold later on in the season. The exhibition runs until (and inc.) Sunday, May 1. Gallery, gardens and tea rooms are open daily 10 am to 5 pm. Enquiries, please ring (01834) 814200.
