Thousands of people were drawn to Neyland and Pembroke Dock over the weekend to watch the biggest ever firework displays to date on the Milford Haven Waterway. The skies above the water were lit up by fireworks of all shapes and sizes as three leading firework experts - Millennium Pyrotechnics, Jubilee Fireworks and WestCoast Fireworks battled for the TOTAL Champion of Champions title. The competition was open by the Show FX's creative designer Anthony Foti, who travelled all the way from Australia to support this event. A panel of technical judges and dignitaries judged the competition with points being awarded for rhythm, continuity, pattern, creativity and use of colour. Points were also awarded for crowd appreciation. "It was a difficult task to choose the overall winner as all the competitors have put tremendous amount of work and creativity into their displays," said one of the judges. "The crowds appreciated every display with a huge applaud and joy." The winner announced on Saturday evening was Jubilee Fireworks. "The competition has been a great success," said Clr. Sue Perkins, the chair of the organising committee, "and we hope that this event will become one of the most prestigious not only in Pembrokeshire, but in the international firework calendar. There have already been enquiries from other leading firework companies from Europe about the next year's competition." The event was being organised by a committee of formed of representatives of local communities, supported by PLANED through the Experience Pembrokeshire Waterway project, supported by EU LEADER+ and part-funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.
