Sir,
I have just gone on line to take a look at the newspaper and have taken a look at the poll with regard to the closure of the Royal Playhouse cinema. I was about to add that I believed that it had to do with the outdated look of the cinema and then thought better of it as I felt it was misleading.
With regard to the actual look of the cinema, the outside obviously requires some work to refresh it, as in its hey-day I remember it being better maintained and looking very impressive when you came up the street.
If everyone says that it is the 'look of the cinema' that is the problem, my concern would be that it would give property developers the excuse to knock it down or change it beyond recognition.
Having lived near Tenby and worked there for many years, I have seen some horrendous planning being allowed to go through.
The real problem with the cinema is that there was no investment when the money was there to do it. A grand refurbishment enhancing the facilities, including toilets, seating etc, would be wonderful. Perhaps the car park at the rear could also be utilised for the cinema, along with some of the area which was the Royal Gatehouse side entrance.
I went to the cinema in Carmarthen and will not be rushing back as I was priced out by the restaurants, as I had taken the family, and the concessions, including the glasses etc, so Tenby as an option would be great.
