Sir,
Further to last week's 'New footpath means safer walk for Manorbier pupils', why do these councillors - Clr. Brian Hall, who is our cabinet member responsible for transportation and environment, and Clr. Pat Griffiths, also a cabinet member responsible for life long learning - and the authority's highways director, Mr. Huw Roberts, continue to mislead parents by saying the new footpath means a safer walk for pupils.
I was very pleased to see Clr. Hall's comment in the article where he states Pembrokeshire County Council's commitment to provide safer routes to schools. If he is so sincere with this commitment, could either Clr. Hall or Clr. Griffiths please explain to me or the parents why priority was given to providing a new footpath at the Penuel Chapel, when there was an existing footpath there already.
I would have thought that it would have been far more sensible to have given priority to providing a footpath from Jameston village for the young children and parents who have to walk on the busy A4139 to and from Manorbier Primary School. Instead we have a vague promise of possible funding to provide this vital missing link sometime in 2005/6, if we're lucky.
So will these councillors and officers please apply some logic and common sense and remove the danger now that these children and parents have to face every day on their hazardous walk to and from school.
A. L. Wales,
North Norton,
Manorbier.
