Oakwood Theme Park has unexpectedly become home to a host of bizarre new Pokémon Go characters.
Staff at the Pembrokeshire attraction noticed a marked increase in visitors using their smartphones in and around the park.
They enlisted the expertise of some of the younger members of the team who confirmed the theme park was now home to a host of different Pokémon.
Oakwood Theme Park’s, Natalie Hunt, said: “Most of us didn’t really have any idea what was going on so we downloaded the Pokémon Go app and discovered there are at least seven characters; Eevee, Golbat, Rattata, Beedrill, Pidgey, Venonat and Weedle in the park!
“We’ve also discovered we have several Pokestops and Pokegyms on site as well,” she added.
Pokémon Go is an augmented reality game on smartphones. Players move around the real world in search of hundreds of virtual monster characters.
Pokémon first became popular in the 1990s when they appeared on the Nintendo Game Boy.
In the latest versions, which is already proving to be a global phenomenon, players can visit Pokestops - typically landmarks or buildings - and collect free items in the game.
The main aim is to catch Pokémon, which pop up along the way. The game provides an augmented reality experience, using the smartphone’s camera to provide a live view of the world, with Pokémon superimposed.
Any creatures caught can be used in battle against other players at Pokegyms.
Set in more than 90 acres of spectacular Pembrokeshire countryside Oakwood is Wales’ biggest family adventure with more than 40 exhilarating rides and amazing experiences to discover.
Famed as one of the world’s wildest wooden coasters, it was voted the best ride in the UK and the third best ride in the world by coaster enthusiasts from the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain.
