The 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War has been the inspiration for an important national project, 'Their Past Your Future' that plans to collect and document Welsh memories. Narberth Museum has been involved in talking to local people about their wartime experiences for some time. Mary Jones, a museum volunteer, and Tommy Thomas started some years ago by tracing the history of those named on the town's War Memorial. Mary is now interviewing several townspeople about their memories of the VE and VJ Day celebrations and hopes to talk to anyone with relevant and interesting stories. The findings will form the basis of an event to be held at the Museum at the end of the summer. In the meantime, there are plans to show a DVD of the 1945 Narberth Victory Carnival in May. From 2 - 4 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, May 24, 25 and 26, all are welcome to drop in to the Museum Bookshop in Market Street to see this unique record taken from Stanley Lewis's original cine film of and including footage of Tenby Home Guard on parade and on manoeuvres at Penally. Copies of the DVD will also be available to buy. If you would like more information or would like to share your memories, contact Mary on: [email protected]">[email protected] or 'phone (01834) 861719.
