A theatre company with a difference is seeking the help of Pembrokeshire's female population to help it produce a new show inspired by a photograph of a group of women.

A grainy black and white photograph from the 1900s of a group of women standing next to a gig rowing boat, captioned 'rude and coarse women', inspired the Cardiff-based Likely Story.

The group of fisherwomen had spent a summer fishing from the gig by day and sleeping under it on the beach by night. It's the seed of a story that ignited the imagination of the company.

"We want to investigate how women are talked about, how women talk about each other and how groups of women support - or don't support - each other,' explained Anne Langford, who runs the theatre company with Ellen Groves and Hazel Anderson.

"We want to talk to lots of women about these themes and are inviting women to join us in the theatre space at the Stackpole Outdoor Learning Centre to share their thoughts and experiences.'

The event, which will be based around conversation and cake, will take place on Thursday and will run from 6 to 8.30 pm.

"The evening promises to be an interesting and stimulating one. It will give women a chance to be creative in a friendly environment and allow them to contribute to creating a new piece of theatre,' said Anne.

"It will be a very relaxed and gentle evening workshop, with some fun, simple creative group exercises led by theatre makers and artists.  No-one will be asked to do anything they're not comfortable doing.

"We want to make sure that we have enough tea and cake so please contact me on 07986 823 824 or [email protected]">[email protected]. If anyone has access needs or needs to bring children please let me know,' she added.
