Sir David Attenborough has just celebrated his 90th birthday. He is a legendary broadcaster starting his career in the early1950s with the three-part series Animal Patterns followed by Zoo Quest first seen in 1954. He was seen regularly in many and various nature programmes before the groundbreaking Life on Earth series. Since then, many excellent programmes and series have followed.
At their May meeting, Pembrokeshire South East Energy Group will be showing the documentary he made called The Truth About Climate Change. This was made based on his personal journey over the many years he has travelled the world looking at and recording the extraordinary range of diverse species of nature he has encountered.
He looks at global warming and how it is changing the planet he knows so well. He examines the evidence and finds out what is causing it and whether mankind is to blame.
He also explores the personal and technological changes we need to make to avert catastrophe.
It is very fortuitous that we will be watching this when the UK has experienced a cold April. This enables us to see the difference between weather (local and short term) and climate (global and long term - usually 30 years).
If you want to learn more from a greatly respected authority, join them on Thursday, May 19, at 7 pm, in the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot. They extend a warm welcome to all members of the public. The documentary is followed by refreshments (free of charge) and a chance to chat.
