HAVE you ever been under the influence? Probably most people, shamefacedly, will raise their arms. But I don't mean that sort of influence. I mean, and let me finish, under the influence of a scholar? In this respect your correspondent will raise his hand (writes P.M.).

One year ago the Reverend Peter Lewis lectured at Tenby Arts Club with a critical examination and explanation of an Old Master painting by semi-rare Flemish artist. He hypnotised the audience with his vision, his words, his scholarship. The current chairman of the club returned home whilst not in total control of his emotions. Then bought his wife a necklace in Lapis Lazuli of such great value the bailiffs threatened. At least this prevented Madam from saying "Why can't you be like him?"

And so Peter Lewis makes a re-appearance at the club. His theme 'The Christmas Truce'. It will be memorable, and have a taste of genius and be unmissable.

The meeting starts at 7.30 pm on Friday, November 8, in St. Johns Church Hall, Warren Street. The club should be charging £100 minimum for this extravaganza, but is well aware of the economic exigencies of South Pembs region, so only charges £2 for members and £4 for non members. An absolute give-away.

If Tenby folk miss this event they will regret it all their days, for the Rev. Peter Lewis is a very big fish indeed.
