WHERE does the word 'Olympianist' come into this?! A word play on the words Olympian and pianist, Anthony Hewitt is a pianist undertaking an event of Olympian proportions, which will see him take in Tenby along the way, with a performance outdoors in St. Mary's Church grounds on Sunday, June 3, at 3 pm.

Cycling along his BeethoVAN from Land's End to John O'Groats, Mr. Hewitt said: "I want to bring music to those in isolated communities who otherwise have little opportunity to experience it, so I am bringing my own piano in a van on which I can perform in market squares and outdoor locations."

Anthony has a passion for the piano, sport and travel. He has performed the piano across the world for over 20 years and in his spare time he enjoys cycling out into the countryside and competing as an amateur triathlete in Olympic distance races with his brother. It was during a long training session that he wondered how he could combine the physical challenges of endurance sport with some of the philosophical and mental challenges of performing on a concert tour. Thus came the idea to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats and play a recital at the end of each day. The concert tour of all concert tours!

During his gruelling tour, Anthony is raising funds for his favourite charities with the help of Classic FM Foundation.

"I constantly seek to better both my musical and sporting performances. I also want to set an example to others, to capture the imagination of children and inspire them to excel beyond what they thought possible," he explained.

"I also try not to take it for granted that I can play the piano, run, swim, ride my bike, ski, and travel across the world unhindered. Many others are less fortunate and I would like to help empower them to lead a normal life and participate in activities which I am fortunate to enjoy on a daily basis.

"My fund-raising target is 20K. I have chosen some of my favourite charities who support a combination of music, sport, children and people with disability".

On that Sunday, a group from WINGS Over Pembrokeshire will perform for the public. WINGS (With Inclusion No One Gets Sidelined) is a charity workshop which gives children in Pembrokeshire with severe disability the opportunity to learn an instrument and sing and perform regularly.
