Since the Bro Nest Group was formed last year, the Welsh Language has continued to go from strength to strength. November saw the launch of possibly the first residential weekend for Welsh learners and speakers in the area. In association with PAVS and Communities First, over 50 people were given the opportunity to come together and use the Welsh language on a daily basis at the superbly located and well-equipped Stackpole Centre. The theme for the weekend was 'The Environment'. Locally produced food was prepared and cooked in teams, encouraging people to mix and communicate through Welsh. The entertainment was provided by the soulful voices of singers Linda and Gaynor Healy, coupled with the beautiful coastal walk led by Alun Ifans, who gave a very entertaining bilingual talk in the history of Pembrokeshire. Christmas was celebrated in true form with a party at the Pembroke Dock Cricketers Lodge. Jane and Rob provided the buffet and the evening included entertainment from Welsh folk band 'Bysedd Main', who also led the folk dancing. Following party games and a visit from Father Christmas, the evening was rounded off with a disco provided by Welsh DJ, Iwan Ward. The first coffee morning of the New Year was held in the Further Education Centre in Pembroke Dock. These monthly get-togethers continue to prove popular with the local Welsh learners and speakers, providing an ideal opportunity for people to practice their Welsh in a relaxed environment. The speaker for January was Peri Thomas, who now works as a facilitator for the Welsh language in the area. The next coffee morning has now been scheduled for Friday, February 3. Presentations of certificates will be made to people who have recently achieved success in their dedication to learning the Welsh language. One of the future speakers will be Mac Macdiarmid. Further events include St. David's Day dinner at the Station Inn, Pembroke Dock, on Wednesday, March 1. For more information, contact Amelia on 01646 685127.
