The Rotary Club of Pembroke has triumphed again at its annual fundraiser at Folly Farm, raising enough money to buy a new electric wheelchair for the occupational health department through the Friends of South Pembrokeshire Hospital.
As in all previous years, the event was sponsored by Valero's Pembroke refinery, meaning that every pound raised would go directly to local charities such as the Friends of South Pembrokeshire Hospital, the Wales Air Ambulance and Rotary Charities. Folly Farm kindly donated the venue.
This year's successful concert with the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) featured Steffan Morris, a previous Texaco Young Musician of Wales winner, returning to play the Dvorak 'cello concerto with the orchestra that he claimed victory with back in 2009.
President Dennis Jones, Pembroke Rotary, said: "We are pleased that Rotary are able to support different local causes each year. The CPO concert has been running for over 10 years and this year again was a great success, with many thanks to Valero and Folly Farm."
William James, Valero public affairs assistant, explained that the company pays all the cost of the CPO itself.
"It is great to still be working with Steffan, five years after his win, to help raise money for the Friends of the South Pembrokeshire Hospital. Anything Valero can do to help the small local hospitals that we all use is very important to us."
