Sir, I am writing to ensure that you and your readers are aware of potential changes in the control, management and operation of Tenby Harbour. The harbour is currently owned and managed by the local authority, Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC). However, the outcome of a forthcoming major review could result in private enterprise taking on the task. The Tenby Harbour Users' Association (THUA), which has looked after the interests of harbour users for more than 40 years, is concerned about the impact that such a move could have. They believe that Tenby Harbour should be run by people who have at heart the interests of the harbour, its users and the town as a whole. The THUA will be presenting their own proposals to the review and are seeking the support of both local people and visitors. The THUA will propose that, following the example of many other harbours throughout England and Wales, a Harbour Board be established to replace PCC as the responsible authority. The board would comprise elected councillors, together with independent experts selected for their knowledge of the marine industry, recreational sailing, the environment and business development. Such a board would be focused locally and would work to ensure that the harbour and its environs are developed and managed sensitively and effectively. Most importantly, the board operation would be transparent and it would be working solely for the benefit of the town, the harbour and its many users and visitors. More information can be found on the website http://www.thua.co.uk">www.thua.co.uk. There is even a link to a THUA Facebook page, where readers may wish to express their views and show their support.

Chris Lawrence,

Tenby.
