Winter advances. The clocks are about to change. Gloom rushes forward at pace. People dashing off to their doctors seeking pick-me-ups. And it hasn't even got cold yet. Christmas, Spring and Summer just too distant to countenance.
Further, having noticed the vast number of berries on the holly, the weather will be severe this winter. Snow, ice, traffic chaos. What could be worse?
Yet each Friday evening through these dark months there is, in Tenby, a little bit of light (in fact, a quite dazzling light).
For then the Arts Club meets, stepping into the breech with its varied programme of art, culture, joy and cheer.
So why not come along? The meetings are on Fridays at 7.30 pm in St. Johns Church Hall, Warren Street. Admission costs are fair and affordable at £2 for members or £4 for non-members. The annual sub is £10. You will be welcomed most warmly and light refreshments are provided free.
The meeting this evening (18th) is a photographic spectacle presented by Harry Gardiner, which has already been pre-serenaded in these columns in last week's edition. A treat for the senses, particularly as it will be Tenby orientated.
Then next week (November 1) features a musical evening with a well known pair Tim and Sandra Robinson from Birmingham, playing as 'The Claret Duo'.
They were at the Arts Club this time last year and a rousing success too. Their music is wide and diverse. Folk, instrumentals, a hint of jazz. Flute, vocals, guitar and accordian. These are accomplished musicians with a light touch. Radio experience too.
Certainly not lightweights. Not to be missed. Be young at heart.
Then in the last few hours there has emerged news of a magic musical moment ahead. Secretary Jackie Barnett has secured 32 tickets for a WNO concert at Sir Thomas Picton School, Haverfordwest, on Saturday, December 21. Grant Llewellyn will brandish the baton and the there will be a charabanc.
More details, price and a booking sheet will be provided at the Gardiner meeting. Expect high demand and take care not to be killed in the rush for tickets.
