Bangeston Hall celebrated the opening of the 2012 Olympic Games in London on July 27 with its own Olympic games that same afternoon.
The magnificent grounds that surround Bangeston Hall became the focus for a triumphant opening procession, with service users and staff wearing laurel leaf crowns and tee-shirts, designed and made by the service users themselves together with Art tutors, Kiera Blazey and Bex Brock-Hollindhead.
The procession was lead by a uniformed Dean Osborne, Commanding Officer of Pembroke Dock Army Cadet Force, followed by torch bearers and the national flag. The games were declared 'Open' by manager and director of Care, Sheila Jack!
Following a buffet lunch eaten outside in glorious weather, participants were entertained by dance tutor Loretta Willoughby and her enthusiastic dance troop.
The games began with sprint races, with some very respectable times clocked up, before attention turned to egg and spoon and relay races, 'throwing the (toy) sheep', tug-of-war, and sundry other events.
The afternoon drew to a close with a grand medal presentation ceremony at which all participants received recognition for their part in the games... a fitting end to a day planned and enjoyed by all.
Bangeston Hall is a residential and development centre for adults recognised as being on the autistic spectrum. It lies mid-way between Tenby and Pembroke Dock.
