As a tribute to Chris Moyles, to help him celebrate 10 years at Radio 1, a maize maze has been carved into a model of the Radio 1 saviour in Pembrokeshire. The maze has been grown on a five-acre maize field at the Heatherton Country Sports Park, near Tenby. As Heatherton entered the 21st century, Charles Davies, managing director, wanted to make eco tourism an important aspect whilst developing the park further. This is the sixth year that the tourist attraction, which offers 20 sporting activities, from paintballing to golf, has created one of these mazes. Prior to the Chris Moyles design, the mazes have been inspired by other big stars, such as Tom Jones and Ryan Giggs. Today the maize field is used to attract tourists from all over Europe. With all the staff at Heatherton being great fans of Chris Moyles, Charles Davies said: "Chris puts all the staff in a good mood before they start work; I've got a lot to thank him for." For those visitors unable to visualise Chris, they will have the chance to enter the maze at ground level with the opportunity to show their musical knowledge through answering music questionnaires. As the end approaches, the big stage can be seen and everyone will have the chance to get up and take part in karaoke. The staff gaurantee those that take part will have a really fun time. Sian Morgan, marketing manager, said: "This is an exciting year for me and the maize maze, as we have dedicated it to one of my heroes, and I look forward to welcoming all the tourists over the next few months." As in previous years, the maze would not have been possible without Adrian Fisher, the world's leading maze designer. He knew that this would be something special for the park. The staff at Heatherton were given instructions where to plant the maize crop, which was sown last April. A lot of work has gone into getting the shape just right, as the maze has also been cut into shape as it grows. It has taken four months for the maze to grow four to five feet tall. By the end of the summer it should reach a height of 13 to 14 feet. So if you want to get lost in the Chris Moyles Maze, try your luck at answering the questions or entertain Heatherton on the special stage - visit Heatherton this summer. The maze opens at the end of July and will be left to grow until the end of August, when it will be harvested and replanted with a new exciting theme for next year.
