Two vehicles at Tenby Harbour got that sinking feeling last Thursday afternoon when they got stuck in the soft sand. First to get stranded was the harbourmaster and his truck while heading back along the beach. One of the drivers of the Caldey Island boat tractors went to his aid, but after freeing the vehicle, it then plunged into the sand and it took the other monastic isle tractor to pull it out of trouble. The sinking scenario was captured on camera by Fern Lewis, of Five West Marine. Work on a new mooring system has recently been implemented at the harbour, similar to the grid systems employed at Saundersfoot and Fishguard. About 40 per cent of the chains strewn across the harbour had become redundant and have been removed in order to reduce confusion over moorings.
