Sir,
A few days ago it came as a complete surprise and shock to me that Mr. Peter Scourfield, for many years the harbourmaster in Saundersfoot, retired from the post early in February last, not due to reaching the retirement age of 65, but somewhat in advance of that age as found necessary for personal reasons which I am sure will be a matter of regret for many of the older local and visiting sailing fraternity - amongst others.
My personal interest lies in the fact that when Peter took up office many years ago I was a committee member of Saundersfoot Sailing Club, rising to the post of Commdore and ultimately being voted into office as club president over a continuous period of nine years, throughout which he was the harbourmaster and as such, the main liaison officer between the club and the Harbour Commissioners.
My many and varied dealings with Peter, on behalf of the Saundersfoot Sailing Club, were always most amicable and of great benefit to the club and I would like to publicly express my appreciation of his valued friendship and services, as I am sure many other club members of my generation may wish to do.
So here's saying an earnest thankyou to Peter for the many services kindly rendered over the years, whilst also wishing him many years of very good times to come.
Frederic G. Morton,
Immediate Past President,
Saundersfoot Sailing Club,
Hamilton,
Broadmoor.
