A thanksgiving service for Sunnybank Residential Home which has given over 50 years of care and service to the community of Narberth and Pembrokeshire will be held on Sunday, June 15, at 2.30 pm, at Bethesda Chapel, High Street, Narberth. Tea and refreshments after the service. The home was opened on January 30, 1963, by Alderman C. Hayden Williams JP. When you walked into Sunnybank, you could see the plaque displayed on the left-hand side after the first set of glass doors. Just that one word 'home' sums up what a precious place Sunnybank was to many over the years. When its doors were opened, it was done so publicly, there was a day set apart for the occasion, the local dignitaries were invited, the local ministers from around were called to say prayers, there was a good gathering and the 'press' turned out to report the event. It was something the community was proud of and it was much-needed since the old Allensbank had served its purpose. It is with much sadness that this residential home has closed this past month. It has been a place of community for those who resided there and public acknowledgement needs to be shown for the work carried out by all those involved over the many years. A presentation booklet will be given on this thanksgiving day to those who have worked at the 'home'. A warm welcome to all.
