Sir,
May I, through the columns of your 'paper, thank the excellent emergency services.
Last week I organised a two-day retreat on Caldey Island for my chaplaincy team based at Morriston Hospital. On the late afternoon of our first day, one of my chaplains, Rev. Edwin Phillips, who helps at Ty Olwen hospice, was taken ill with severe chest pains.
Following the excellent ministration of Brother Michael, it was decided that Edwin needed hospital treatment. The call went out and the response was magnificent.
I would like to thank Ian and Margaret from St. Philomena's Guesthouse, Brother Robert, Brother Senan and company, the excellent paramedics, the brave lifeboat crew, coastguards and medical staff at Withybush.
I am glad to report that Edwin is now much better, but joins me in thanking most sincerely all involved in this incident. He is looking forward to returning to the island to thank everyone personally.
I have nothing but admiration for all who helped at the time. I also unexpectedly fulfilled life time ambition by accompanying Edwin on the lifeboat!
Many thanks and sincere best wishes to the unsung heroes we so often take for granted.
Rev. Nigel Griffin,
Chaplain to
Morriston Hospital
