Tenovus, Wales' leading cancer charity, is taking further steps to ensure the support offered by the charity is received right in the heart of the community by working more closely with staff and volunteers in their shops across Wales.

The charity's cancer support team (CST) have been working with eight shops, including Tenby, on a pilot project called the 'CST Ambassador Project' which has seen 24 shop volunteers and shop managers/assistant managers trained as cancer support ambassadors.

The aim of the project is for Tenovus volunteers and staff to have a better knowledge of the work of the cancer support team, and what they can offer individuals worried about or affected by cancer in their local community.

Regional cancer support manager Sharon Topazio said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the Tenovus shops and the cancer support team to work together in supporting people in local communities who are affected by cancer. We now have cancer support advisors working across Wales and want to support customers by giving advice and support where it is needed most.'

The cancer support ambassadors are now ready to offer a level of support to customers, and have the confidence and knowledge to be able to refer people to other Tenovus services when necessary, and will act as a vital link between the charity shops and the cancer support team.

The Tenby shop is located at Unit 1, Ashley House, High Street, Tenby.
