Tenby’s merry band of bellringers at St Mary’s Church recently welcomed two new members for a very special occasion.
After studying, rehearsing and practising for the long-awaited exciting Coronation Day on May 6, the morning dawned for the ‘bellringing band’.
Seven of the team have been ringing for a long while but two ringers joined the team at the beginning of the year, to master the ancient art of bellringing.
After 5 months of training and exercising, guided by Richard Bedford and Clive Webb, Becca Charnock and Julie Cunningham have grasped and conquered the skill. They have learnt to control their bells and are now ‘flying solo.’
Ringing began at 9.30 am to much delight and enthusiasm. They rang call changes, rounds, Queens and Kings. All present were proud to honour Their Majesties - King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Ringing lasted until 10 am. when the ringers disbanded and rushed home to view the Royal spectacle.
St. Mary’s Tower was noted in The Ringingworld magazine, joining the hundreds of other Towers throughout the United Kingdom that had rung to mark Coronation Day and venerate The King and Queen.
