Tenby’s Mayor-elect has said that it will be a ‘great honour’ to represent the ‘fabulous town’ that he lives in.

At Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, Cllr Dai Morgan was the only member to put their hat into the ring to succeed current Mayor, Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall.

The motion was proposed by Cllr Duncan Whitehurst and seconded by Cllr Charles Dale, and accepted by fellow members.

With fellow members accepting his proposal, Cllr Morgan said that it would be a ‘great honour’ to represent this ‘fabulous town’ as Mayor and he was looking forward to donning the scarlet robes of office.

After her third consecutive term in the role as Mayor, Cllr Skyrme-Blackhall said that she was really ‘thrilled’ to see Cllr Morgan put his name forward, and knows that he will do a ‘marvellous job’.

Cllr Morgan lives in the seaside town with his partner Melanie, son Miles and daughter Erin. He works as a postman, from the Narberth office, covering that area as well as Whitland and Tenby itself.

“I get to meet lots of people; and yes I am one of them posties that wear shorts all year!” he laughed.

“I’m a keen cyclist and runner. Over the years this has developed into a bit of an obsession which led me into triathlons. I have raced several distances including completing Ironman Wales in 2016.”

As well as stepping in as Mace Bearer, for the Mayor party from time to time, since he joined the Council in 2018, Cllr Morgan is involved with various charities, and is currently on the committee for Tenby Sea Swim Association which organises the popular Tenby Boxing Day charity swim.

In 2019, he had the pleasure of organising a charity cycle ride from Harrogate to Tenby - dubbed Harten400 - which covered 286 miles non-stop in 36 hours!

“18 of us completed this and several thousand pounds were raised for The British Heart Foundation,” he continued.

“As Mayor elect for 2023/2024 it’s a huge privilege to follow in the footsteps of many great people who have been Mayor of the town.

“I am looking forward to the next twelve months. I think it's vital to continue on the similar path we are on now.

“In the last 6 months we have recruited new staff to support Community activity and we have supported our existing staff and made it possible for them to spend more time on helping the people of Tenby and less time on organising meetings.

“We have also been trying to be more environmentally friendly and I want us to do more on this.

“This builds a great platform for us as a council to engage more with the community. I believe we should be working with and listing to the people of Tenby more, involving them on anything they feel that needs addressing.

“Our doors are always open, so call in the office, come to a meeting or chat to me as I wander around in my shorts with your post!

“I’m excited and look forward to representing Tenby and the people of the town,” he added.
