Sir, As an occasional visitor to Tenby, and not being local, I have no knowledge of the workings of local politics. However, I must say I am rather surprised that the outgoing Mayor Clr. John Griffiths, has not been re-elected to the council. Over the last 10 years or more I have come to know John, and I can say that I know no one who holds Tenby and its people more dear to his heart. Tenby born and bred, he spent his working life abroad in high security and administration, and would be an asset to any organisation, large or small. At the end of his tenure in office he organised a Mayor's Charity Concert at the De Valence with the intention of the takings going to his chosen charities Tenby Sea Cadets and Tenby ATC. All the many performers gave their services free of charge. Sadly, it was not that well supported, but those who did attend were treated to an excellent evenings entertainment by singers, dancers and musicians, as well as representatives of the Sea Cadets and ATC. At the end of the evening, John duly presented two very sizable cheques to both groups. It did not take much working out to appreciate that the sums of money must have been topped up by somebody. In not being re-elected to the council, I think the people of Tenby have lost the services of a good man.
