The return of Tenby’s New Year’s Eve firework display and the Boxing Day swim has been welcomed and praised by local councillors.
Revellers to the seaside town were able to see 2023 in with a bang, after Covid restrictions had put a dampener on firework displays (hosted by Tenby House Hotel) and celebrations for the past two years.
Tudor Square in the heart of the coastal town, was back to its packed capacity once again though on December 31, with hundreds of people enjoying the countdown to the New Year.
Meeting this month with fellow members of Tenby Town Council, the Mayor, Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall said she wished to congratulate Lesley Fisher, owner of Tenby House Hotel at her team, as it was a ‘fabulous display’ and commented on by many.
Cllr Laurence Blackhall asked if the Town Council had received a request for financial support towards the insurance costs of the fireworks, as they had done in previous years.
With the clerk stating that no request had been received, Cllr Sue Lane proposed sending a letter to the establishment, offering congratulations on the display, whilst adding that the Town Council would also be delighted to support them with their insurance costs.
On the return of Tenby’s Boxing Day Swim, which celebrated its 50th anniversary, and was back on North Beach after a two-year Covid-enforced absence, the Mayor said it was great to see the event back, with over 800 entering the water and huge crowds coming to the town to watch.
Local DJ Steve Briers who provided the tunes for both events said on New Year’s Eve atmosphere in Tenby: “What a massive crowd, just incredible. It was an absolute pleasure to work in this environment and with such an awesome party crowd!
“It was just one crazy fun-filled atmosphere.”
On the Boxing Day Swim he remarked: “It was also my 38th consecutive swim as compere and I’ve enjoyed playing the tunes at every single swim.”
