As part of a new feature of Tenby’s Remembrance weekend a brief service was led by the Revd’ Canon Andrew Grace outside St. Mary’s Church in Tenby on Saturday (November 13) to receive and bless the Poppy Trail created by Tenby Girl Guides.

Following an initiative from the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sam Skyrme-Blackhall, the Guides gathered pebbles and painted poppies on them.

The Guides also met with the Mayor and discussed Remembrance Day and its importance. The idea came about following discussions with the Tenby Branch of the British Legion about ways in which young people could participate in activities and learn more about Remembrance commemorations and the sacrifices made by the people of Tenby.

Covid restrictions meant that this year, following an approach from the Mayor, it was just the Girl Guides participating but it is hoped that in the future other uniformed organisations, youth groups and schools can also become involved; learning about the War Memorial, those remembered on it and creating something to remember them by.

“The significance of Remembrance Commemorations are as great as ever,” said Tenby’s Mayor.

“As we ensure that we will remember it is important the next generation learn of the contribution that people of Tenby have made through time whilst serving their Country.

“I am delighted that the Guides have participated in this trial year and I hope that many more will be able to be involved in the future.

“This is an opportunity for future generations to understand the value of remembering our past,” she added.
